A Few Good Habits To Maintain Healthy Beautiful Long Hair

For many of us who love long hair find that maintaining it can be a bit stressful. Believe it or not crazy schedules, bad food habits and pollution all have an effect on hair. But, by keeping up with a few good habits you can be on your way to having the healthy beautiful long hair you have always dreamed of.

Of course, there is more care needed in order to have long silky hair vs short hair. However, many tips are the same. Here we outline a few extra tips for you to get the beautiful long silky hair you have been longing for.

Shampoos

Using the right shampoo is essential. Natural ingredients are key. Avoid shampoos that have additional ingredients, for example; scents.

Conditioners

Because long hair tangles, a moisturizing conditioner is needed after your shampoo. No only does it help your hair to be smoother and silkier it also helps when brushing. It loosens up the knots and tangles which reduces splitting of hair. Aloe Vera is recommended to be applied once a week and left on your hair for 30 minutes. Just remember to use only natural conditioner products.

Massaging Scalp

Gently massage your scalp while shampooing. This will keep the hair roots healthy. By massaging the scalp you are removing oil, dirt and dead skin cells that accumulate and affect hair growth.

Temperature of Water

When washing your hair make sure to use lukewarm water. Hot water weakens the hair, leaving it brittle and dry. Rinse with cold water. This closes the hair follicles and helps to maintain healthier hair.

Brushing

Use a large brush and brush gently with even strokes to avoid tangling and breaking of hair. Avoid yanking and work on a small section of the hair at a time.

Hair Drying & Styling

Try to avoid using a hair dryer whenever possible. Naturally drying hair will avoid additional damage to hair. Make sure the products and high performance styling tools you use have a special heat shield. Try to minimize the time you use these tools. The less you do the better your hair will be.

Hair Cuts

Stay on schedule with a regular trim every six weeks. If you wait to long your hair will begin to look dry, flat and develop split ends.

Chemicals

Try to avoid harsh chemicals. If you go swimming regularly in a chlorinated pool make sure you rinse your hair thoroughly afterward to get rid of all chemical residual.

Diet

Never forget about your diet. What you eat not only helps your inside but it makes a drastic difference in your outside appearance as well. To maintain healthy beautiful long hair, protein is essential and promotes hair growth. Eat foods rich in protein such as dairy, eggs, fish, nuts and lean meat. And do not forget the importance of water. Make sure you drink plenty of water every day. A well-hydrated body prevents hair from breakage.

Additional Supplements

Studies have shown that biotin (vitamin B1), omega 3 fatty acids, and zinc stimulate the cells and elongate hair follicles which help to make your hair grow faster. Please note: always speak with a doctor before taking any supplements.
